Canterbury Tales on a Cockcrow Morning is a collection of short stories that borrows Chaucer’s framework to write stories of new settlers to Canterbury, migrants from across the world. A city in which Maggie Harris matured, educated and developed as an artist, and which she has seen change over several decades. It won the New Writing South Award.
Award: New Writing South
“Maggie Harris creates stories about the nitty-gritty of ‘ordinary’ folk’s lives, which, although often dealing with tragedy, pettiness, and awareness of loss, are also infused with warmth, humour and optimism.”
